I recently spoke at a rodeo queen clinic where we addressed the issue of “fads.” Especially appearance fad. My opinion is pretty simple: Do what looks good because it looks good on you, NOT because it looks good on someone else. I know some girls who believe that short hair is “coming back” and as a result, cut their beautiful, long hair. There is a reason rodeo queen hair has the stereotype of curly and hairsprayed — because that is what looks good on a girl with a big hat and shiny crown. Girls/Women/Ladies have small faces as a general statement, the small petite and femine face can be lost under a hat and crown. This is the reason for the curls and hair spray.
Do what you want with your hair - long, short, straight, curled. The way you look the day you get crowned should be the image you should try and achieve every morning before your rodeo queen appearance. We have all heard the excuses. I have been there. I know it isn’t any fun to mess with the rollers, the hairspray, the 5 am alarms. If you don’t want to deal with that, don’t do it during your pageant. By showing up to the pageant dressed to the nines and hair and makeup done, you are saying to that state/rodeo/organization, “This is the image I will portray as your rodeo queen.”
