When it comes to driving, I am always the person who prefers to ride shotgun rather than drive. Some people just love to drive - not me. I do pretty well for the first hour or so and then I get extremely bored. It wasn’t until I was MIss Rodeo Montana that I learned to love driving. Granted, I still would prefer to take the passenger’s seat with a good book or a pillow and enjoy the ride. Anyway, during the thousands and thousands of miles I drove - mostly alone - over the course of the year, I learned to value driving across my great state.
1. Books on tape - never worked for me for some reason but I seem to be the only one. Most people LOVE them. You can rent them from your local book store or library or buy them from similiar places. Some gas stations have them where you can rent them and return them on your way back through or return them at another chain location. Your options are endless - fiction, nonfiction, inspirational speaking, humorous dialogues…etc. etc.
2. Ipod/MP3 - This was my salvation. Go to your local Wal-Mart, in the electronics there are MP3 accessories and they have the type of devices where you can plug your MP3 into your cigarette lighter. I am sure you’ve seen them. I suggest the kind that charges your player while it’s plugged in because you might have a long drive and you don’t want to lose power midway!
3. Sattelite Radio - Sirius or XM are the ones I am familiar with. I did not have this but I have been in vehicles that do. It is very cool. You can listen to music, comedy, theatre radio. Very best of all, for rodeo queens, is the news station. You can listen to FoxNews LIVE. So you can study while you drive.
4. Peace and quiet - don’t ever forget the value of this.
5. Cell Phones - last but not least! You might need to increase your minutes because you WILL, granted you have cell service, use A LOT of talk time while on the road.
