It is hard enough to pack a bag for the weekend, but what about a week long trip? When I was a queen my least favorite thing to do was pack. I hated it mostly because I never knew what I was going to really need for a certain trip and ended up packing twice what I really needed. I think by the end of the year I had my packing down to an art. You will find certain products that you swear by and will not leave the house without. I am here to share some of my packing secrets. Every rodeo queen can try them out, they might not work for you but it’s always worth a try!
Downy Wrinkle Release (travel size) - you can get this at your grocery store in the aisle with the laundry detergent next to the RIT dye. It works well to get out wrinkles. Spray it on, it dries and takes out most wrinkles. Granted, starch what you can but in a bind I used this a lot!
Instead of bringing 10 different bottles of vitamins and pain killers you can combine them in a zip lock bag or separate bottle. Do this ONLY if you can tell your vitamins from your Aspirin!
I found it was hard to keep up with packing and unpacking only to pack again in a few days. For this I bought travel size toiletries. Pack a small overnight bag with your bathroom “stuff” in it and leave it packed. This way you don’t have to worry whether or not you forgot your toothpaste!
Leave multiple books of autograph sheets (and Sharpies) in your car/pickup. You would hate to have to turn away one little kid because you ran out of autograph sheets and forgot to pack extras.
First-aid, wet naps, boot sponge, spray starch, hat cover, rain coat, safety pins, and hair spray are essential items to keep permanately packed somewhere as well.
When you are packing think through every event you will be attending for that trip. Will you have time to change between events? What is the weather going to be like? I live in Montana where it can snow, rain, or shine on pretty much any given day so I had to make sure I was ready. It only takes one rodeo to be miserable at before you learn! Although it can be a pain to pack in and out of the house and again to the hotel but it never hurts to be overpacked.
