Outlaws to Graceful Ladies
The 2009 Gusto Distributing Pro Rodeo Style Show took us back to a time when the west was really wild. Outlaws and notorious gunmen ruled when there were few laws and fewer amenities. The pageant contestants started it off when they showed us they not only were cowgirls, but the could really keep rhythm as they entertained the crowd with a dance they learned in just two days while wearing donated “Q – Baby” Wranglers courtesy of Wrangler and Hoglunds. A special thanks to Kate Ruland for making the shirts. Miss Rodeo Montana – Audrey Sholty and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana – Jennifer Marshall modeled outfits that had some interesting stories behind them.
The added attraction of visiting royalty and guest models enhanced the show while they presented a wardrobe of awe-inspiring clothing and footwear from pageant sponsors – Hoglunds, Dragonfly Dry Goods, Sagebrush Sirens and Western Ranch Supply. A popular addition to this year’s style show was the commercials. Contestants, visiting, and reigning royalty were the stars in some very nicely done commercial advertisements to some of Miss Rodeo Montana’s biggest sponsors – Double H Custom Hats, Noon’s Food Stores, Hoglunds, Montana Fur Trapper’s, and Gusto Distributing. Bad Benny Brown was in town and took people’s money for door prizes. Some lucky spectators benefited from these drawings while financially assisting the Miss Rodeo Montana organization. MRM/MTRM Judge Miss Sampson and one other lucky person won the grand drawing of tickets to the “Circle the Wagons” Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame prime rib benefit and auction. The auction and benefit will be held in Helena on February 7th. Contact the Hall of Fame or Christy Stensland for your tickets.
The style show ended with a stand off between Bad Benny Brown and the Miss Rodeo Montana and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana Contestants. With the help of Audrey and Jennifer, the girls had Bad Benny Brown with hands above his head before he had time to draw his gun.
Kiddie Rodeo
Have you ever watched rodeo through the eyes of a child after she finishes a 2.6 second barrel run or listened to the cries of delight after a youngster has finally caught both horns on the roping dummy? Only those attending the Miss Rodeo Montana Pageant Kiddie Rodeo would know the enthusiasm exhibited by those children. The Miss Rodeo Montana and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana contestants were the hostesses for the Kiddie Rodeo for the youth of the Great Falls and the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit. Events for the day were barrel racing and roping. Autographs from visiting royalty, reigning Miss Rodeo Montana and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana, and of course our pageant contestants were also a highlight for those involved.
A special thank you goes to the visiting royalty who have traveled from across Montana to participate in the excitement of crowning Miss Rodeo Montana and Miss Teen Rodeo Montana 2009. Your help in selling raffle tickets, cash calendars, being ticket takers, door greeters, providing entertainment, and being fashion models made this pageant complete. The future of Montana rodeo queens is bright! It has been a joy to watch each of you participate and serve while you grow and learn. Good luck in your future and we hope to see you again next year!
