You can never be too prepared for a pageant.  The more you know, the more youmixed 010 can relax when you finally arrive at the pageant.  Recently a few local queens took the right approach in preparing for a pageant in which they were participating.  A “mock pageant” was put on for them.  The girls took turns with interviews in front a panel of judges, gave their speech, answered impromptu questions, and modeled their western dresses.  All of this was done as if they were at the pageant.

This is a great idea for anyone preparing for a pageant.  It rids some of the jitters and enables ensurance that you have everything ready for the pageant.  Make sure you do your hair, makeup, and dress exactly as you would at the pageant.  Meet with the “judges” and other people who attend after the mock pageant to see what last minute things you should be thinking about.

Getting volunteers lined out to help with this project may be easier than you think.  Get in contact with former rodeo queens - we are always willing to help because we have been there!  Community members like radio station hosts, news anchors, employers, bankers - these are all people who would like to help, have everyone bring a friend.  Churches are usually accommodating for these type of events.  Help the less experienced judges out by bringing some questions for them to ask during the interview and impromptu portions.

The mock pageant can do nothing but help you.  Keep in mind the people that come to help are there in your best interest.  Remember to send thank you notes and take constructive critiscm gracefully.  If you can’t get enough people together for a complete pageant, definitely practice your speech, impromptu, and modeling around your family and friends!
