I think a lot of people take this valuable word for granted - “professionalism.” We all know the saying “First impressions last a lifetime.” This couldn’t be more true but what about 2nd and 3rd and so on, impressions? If you are in a professional position - such as a rodeo queen - it is so important that you maintain a professional attitude and appearance.
Many of the state title holders, and some local queens, sign a written agreement that states they will dress professional throughout their reign anytime they step out of their house. This means not wearing pajama bottoms that have “juicy” written on the behind to the grocery store. You never know when or where you are going to run into a future employer, a fan, parent, rodeo contractor etc.
Put your cell phones away! I know how addicting they can be, but unless it is a life or death situation, you do not need your phone glued to your ear (or thumbs for texting). Do your phone calls during those countless hours you spend driving to and from various rodeos. It really shows carelessness and tackiness to always be using your cell phone for whatever reason. In my mind, there is no reason a person should see a queen using their cell phone during an event such as rodeo, parade, or meetings. Trust me, I have seen it happen in all cases!!
Attitude is everything. I won’t say much here because it is just plain unacceptable to have a rodeo queen with a sour attitude. Smile - even if you don’t agree. If you are having a bad day (we all do), find a place you can regroup.
