I recently spoke to the newly crowned Miss Rodeo Montana, Lesli Furniss.  She asked me for some words of advice on the job she will hold for the next year.  My advice: bring back a momento from each new place you visit and do at least one thing for yourself on your trips.

Bringing back something as small as a little pin from the rodeos, fairs, and other events you visit will be a great thing to put in your “queen display” when you are done.  For instance, I collected pins and at the end of my year I put them on the banner I was able to keep.  The banner hangs in my house and I can look at it anytime I want and reflect on the times I had and how I got each pin.  It’s one of the most valued things I retained from my year.

Do something for yourself!  You get to traveling so much and sometimes you don’t know if you are coming or going; it will keep your head fresh and your attitude more positive.  My example for this is trying something new everytime I went out of state.  It might have been a famous local food dish (sometimes it was a brave choice!) or learning something new about the local attractions.  The key is finding the fun in each situation.  You might not realize how many new things you are experiencing until you really start looking at the situations!
